Fanfic Lesbians and Those Nasty Stereotypes
Imagine it: you're a proud, virtue signalling individual. On Tumblr, Twitter, and every form of social media you happily denounce any company or action for doing Any Number of Bad Things to any of these select minorities: blacks, transgender people, People of Colour, transgender people of colour lesbians, etc. You sympathize with them because they sympathize with your plight.
But what happens when you're a white lesbian, and a white lesbian who has such a keen focus on reading men having sex with other men? Here, I thought the old view was that lesbians hated anything involving a penis; that was the whole reason they are lesbian. Curious, though, how white lesbians will enjoy reading male-male sex, but the opposite never happens: gay men do not watch lesbian porn. What to do with this enigma?
We're about to find out with The Dance of the Eagles.
Before I begin, though: in a note on the author's tumblr, this was said:
Another item: the author, being a proud virtue signaller, does whatever she can to be tolerant. This is how 1191 Muslims will be interacting with each other.
From the author's note:
And what better way to introduce a healthy same-sex relationship by having those gay men being sexually abused. There's no trend there, is there? It's just a bigoted Christian myth, dontchaknow.
Well this explains it.
In the tune of sexual abuse forming a gay man's identity, this also makes absolute sense. Though, I wonder how Altair was raped in the first place. When it comes to the situation of rape, when it's male on male, it's considered a 'rite of passage', whereas for women it becomes a Brock Turner case where every blog explodes with righteous fury on how we live in a rape culture. For men, they are expected to take it in stride; to see the 'pleasure' in it, and accept that this is what they always wanted and that is who they are now.
It does not surprise me, then, that the author, an autistic SJW who no doubt is a feminist, takes such pleasure in these things (as well as male pregnancy, but we'll get to that later).
This sure did come out of nowhere like the surprise sex scenes.
From the Author's Note of Chapter 4:
It's pretty damn funny, isn't it, how you're the same people who will look at, say, Catholic priests abusing boys and condemn that to the end of time (but will never question what their sexual orientation is). Pretty damn funny how you'll condemn Christians and people who notice how gay men overwhelmingly suffer from sexual abuse when you confirm that stereotype with every single fanfic you write. But sure, let's just continue to treat it as a myth. Keep snarking on Tumblr on how it's one big conspiracy against you; how bigots are only using 'stereotypes' to deny you your rights. It worked for the past forty years, didn't it?
Ain't this funny? A white liberal isn't aware that menstruation actually is in the Koran. Even though the Assassins are not particularly religious, Malik, Altair and the rest all say 'Peace Be Upon You', which is a Muslim greeting. They are steeped in Muslim culture, even if they do not make the pilgrimage or pray five times a day.
On the Koran and menstruation, this came up:
Come on, girl. You don't mean to tell me Tumblr wasn't of help here? Aren't you the same people who complain that men know nothing about menstruation, when menstruation has been referenced in all three of the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam?
Ironically, Christian people are far more aware of these facts than social liberals, and the ones who are aware are far more sympathizing and understanding of gay men's plight than the most atheistic, 'I Fucking Love Science' virtue worshiper concerned with being tolerant.
When it comes to sexual abuse, there are a few things that happen, two of which are:
1. Acting out, rebelliousness, and sexual promiscuity.
2. Utter fear of the opposite or the same sex, and a desire to feel loved/engage in things they might otherwise avoid in order to seek that love.
Altair has not expressed either trait, but instead became a shut-in. If Al Mualim was the pederast the author wrote him to be, he would have been killed eventually because one person would have had enough. You cannot have a loyal army of Assassins - or loyalty full stop - if you abuse and sexually destroy your underlings. They will fear you and hate you.
How is it that I am aware of these things, but an autistic social justice warrior who writes characters autistic as herself (and gay as herself) is not?
Now, just imagine you are that and you are an Assassin's Creed fan - a lesbian to boot - who goes on about how the Auditore family is a family of queers with even the youngest one, a 13-year-old, also being gay. Or how Connor Kenway is an asexual transboy. Coupled with tons of 'Hehe, aren't I quirky?' posts and how your autistic diagnosis makes up your life, you get...a white lesbian who goes on and on about her autistic diagnosis and how she feels proud she knows gay people existed before 2000.
When it comes to Assassin's Creed, all the games take place in different historical time periods. If you want to write for any one of them, it's good to know what era you are writing for and to get everything down pat. Not only does it add authenticity, it can give you story ideas. However, such draconian things like doing research is lost on 90% of this fandom. It makes better work to have characters who grew up in a Muslim culture have an entire community 'know' they are homosexual and be completely fine with it.
Yes, about that my dear: while homosexuality did exist before 2000 - any book by John Boswell or Queer Theory/History in general will tell you that - the way it was interpreted, seen, and punished is seldom discussed. Usually two roads are taken:
1. Homosexuality was perfectly normal and accepted by many cultures until Christianity and its homophobia arrived.
2. Christianity never had an issue with homosexuality, and same-sex love has been celebrated throughout time.
Daily reminder you hold this view while women today can't get basic healthcare. Another reminder you hold this view while exempting gay men who may hold the same views or even worse views regarding women.
Now, wait a minute. What does this have to do with the story? What about the writing? The writing is forgettable. I don't give two shits about it or the characterization - all of it is based around homosexual abuse. In a way it's weirdly hilarious, because the author - a lesbian - isn't even aware she is confirming every single bigoted stereotype about gay men: that many of them are sexually abused as kids and that is why they are gay to begin with.
The same also applies to lesbians, as they, too, are abused by predominately male abusers and that is why they don't like men. Would you like me to apply those same bigoted standards to you, dear author? I don't think so. You'd throw an absolute tantrum and tell me how much you're a lesbian; you're free from criticism and how dare I do this to you?
It also says a lot about the author. The author, a white, autistic, virtue signalling author who doesn't like the word 'retard' (even though the definition means 'to slow or hinder') absolutely loves writing about male on male sex. She loves thinking about it, she loves reading and likely viewing art of it. Why, when as a lesbian you are that way because you do not like penis? Is there another mechanism working here I don't get? Or is it that real-world penis throws you off, but fictional penis involving gay men (who are not attracted to lesbians and do not consume or create lesbian porn) is really, really hot?
Or maybe you're projecting? That seems to be the case 90% of the time. Fanfic lesbians - and no, I'm not saying that to be bigoted, in this particular author's case they really are - have such an issue with men in real life but they have zero issue with hunky, attractive, masculine men in fiction going at each other. Men they desire but cannot have do things they want to happen to them. For fanfiction in general, which is predominately written by white women who are usually not straight, the slash archetype tells me a lot about the inner workings of the author. For this story, a white liberal lesbian who knows nothing about history or Muslim culture and how they reacted to homosexuality is happy to tell me to wear the hijab and be tolerant. She is also happy to keep selling me the product that her slash stories which feature men getting pregnant (when the author probably will never get pregnant in her life), and men engaging in homosexual acts is not indicative of her personal views. Like, at all.
Amusing, no, to have a fanfic lesbian who hates the D but also loves writing about the D and dreaming about the D...going into other men, not her. Also amusing to have a virtue signalling author demand societal changes and how she's autistic and how important that is?
I bet you're wondering: what does this have to do with Assassin's Creed? It's the same thing I asked when reading this story. It was about homosexual sexual abuse on kids, and how the author denies it's even a problem in that culture/doesn't want people to talk about it. So, here I am, pointing out how a fanfic lesbian is doing a great service to her fellow sexual minorities by bringing up an important issue yet refuses to talk about it because it's too offensive.
Tell me, my dear. When you become a vet-tech, are you going to tell me what gender your pet patients will identify as; whether they're pansexual, polygender or polyamorous, or is that just for humans? Am I going to get a nice, long lecture on how intolerant I am from a passive aggressive 'Yee, I'm so excited' individual who isn't even aware the Koran does talk about menstruation?
But please. Reblog on how Shay Cormac's a bottom. Give me some of that D.
Oh, one more thing. Have a nice watch of this video. You might learn something.
But what happens when you're a white lesbian, and a white lesbian who has such a keen focus on reading men having sex with other men? We're about to find out with The Dance of the Eagles.
Before I begin, though: in a note on the author's tumblr, this was said:
remember one time in 11th grade somebody asked if the author of a book we are reading could possibly be gay because there’s the women characters weren’t even sexually appealing to the male characters Beyond just being flat. my 11th grade teacher replied with one of the most ignorant things he had fever said but possibly not the most which was:
“Gay people weren’t invented before the year 2000”As if On Cue every single member of the class pretty much turned to look at me, cuz I’m gay. I just shook my head and defeat I’d already had to explain to this man multiple times that events he was talking about did not take place in Beowulf which was the book we were reading but in fact the Odyssey The Iliad or Arthurian Legends. And sometimes he just aggressively played his fiddle at us he didn’t know how to play the fiddle but nevertheless he played the fiddle
I feel the need to add he also had framed large posters of Oscar Wilde Emily Dickinson and William Shakespeare in his room so like I don’t know what was going through his head because those are some queer peopleYes, Virginia, gay people did exist before the year 2000. You might know from all the queer history blogs on Tumblr or watched videos on YouTube. Or, like me, the school curriculum was changed to include more LGBT people and highlight their contributions. This will become an item of note in regards to the story.
Another item: the author, being a proud virtue signaller, does whatever she can to be tolerant. This is how 1191 Muslims will be interacting with each other.
From the author's note:
My, my...'everyone' in 1191, who recovered from a coup and saw the death of their master, has time to think the Dai of Jerusalem and the brightest and youngest Master Assassin are a totes couple? Aw, too bad they don't have smartphones and can't recommend them on Grindr. The inhumanity!Basically everyone thinks they're together. They work together all day and share a bed at night, but aren't a couple. They help each other and strengthen the brotherhood. Meanwhile they're slowly figuring out what they are to each other. This is not a fic about abuse it is a fic about recovery from abuse.
And what better way to introduce a healthy same-sex relationship by having those gay men being sexually abused. There's no trend there, is there? It's just a bigoted Christian myth, dontchaknow.
He watched a group of boys in one of the corners tell stories. He couldn’t hear what they were saying but from the others’ expressions he could tell they were sexual in nature. As he watched he noticed that one boy, though he was clearly listening, wasn’t adding anything to the conversation. He had been that boy a few times. Usually he was happy to chat about women and girls, both as individuals and as a general, but there had been days that his mind just wouldn’t cooperate, days when he couldn’t stop himself from watching drops of water run down the other boys’ chests. He hadn’t been the only one distracted by such things, there were always a few, and so long as they grew up and married no one cared what they did as boys.OK, so this is where the 'I always knew I was gay' trope comes in. A boy, uncomfortable about girls and unsure about his sexual identity, realizes he is attracted to other boys. Then comes the reason as to 'why' that person is attracted to other boys: is it because he was 'born that way', or is it because of something else? If the author sticks to her sexual abuse tag, then this homosexual identity becomes easily understandable.
They’d also spent a good deal of time discussing Altair with his, then, still soft facial features and feminine gait.
Well this explains it.
Altair sighed and closed his eyes before nodding once. He kept his eyes closed as he stepped out of his pants. There were wounds like the ones on his chest on the front of his legs. When Malik went to check the backside he noticed a very small patch of dried white near the top of Altair’s thigh. Before Malik could stop himself a sound escaped him. “Oh.”On Altair’s paler skin his blush was noticeable. Malik returned to face Altair.“Were you raped?” He asked softly, wanting to draw Altair into his arms, but refraining from touching him until he got the all clear. Altair, with his eyes still closed and his face nearly all red shook his head. Malik breathed a sigh of relief. “Get dressed.”
He looked back to Altair one more time and realized I love him.
This sure did come out of nowhere like the surprise sex scenes.
From the Author's Note of Chapter 4:
So yeah....Rashid was a pedophile who took advantage of the fact that Altair was orphaned and in his care and didn't have friends. From here on in there's probably going to be triggering stuff in every chapter as Altair starts to work through it all.
It worked for the past forty years, didn't it?
“Their monthly sickness. They bleed for up to a week.” Altair still hadn't looked up from the page he was reading.“That can’t be true! They’d die! Who told you that?”
"They will ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harmful, so keep away from women during it. Do not approach them until they are purified of it, when they are purified you may approach them as Allah has ordained." (Qur'an 2:222)
Come on, girl. You don't mean to tell me Tumblr wasn't of help here? Aren't you the same people who complain that men know nothing about menstruation, when menstruation has been referenced in all three of the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam?
So here we have a pederast who abused Altair in his youth, walking around freely. I should like to tell the author, a lesbian, that this practice is much like the Afghani custom of Bacha Bazi. U.S. soldiers were told to look the other way because it was 'not their place to judge' and it was just another aspect of Muslim culture. Looks like those 'babykillers' had some morals, huh?“I warned him you’d do it one day.” Lykon chuckled. “It’s a shame though. You were fun to play with. Not as fun as the one that cried. He still gagged the last time I was here. Does he still?”Altair growled.“Or do you have a new boy I can play with?” The man smirked.“Never.” Altair vowed before plunging his hidden blade into the man’s heart. “I would never.”
This settles it, then: Altair's homosexual identity arose from his sexual molestation. Awkward around other boys, and terrified of girls, his destroyed innocence leads him to conjure up confused thoughts and feelings. The male mentor he looked up to turned out to be a monster, and now he looks to find a new 'father', a new male mentor to guide him in his way. In reality, these desires often lead gay men to take very, very dangerous routes, and it should be no wonder that their STD rates are the highest of any minority.Malik had stopped reading as he was becoming nauseous thinking about what was to come. He’d skimmed other entries and it had become abundantly clear that Altair had not been an active participant when it began, that he’d been clueless about sex.It also became clear that Altair was different in more ways than one. Malik thought back to when they were children, before Umar had died, and remembered how Altair had struggled with forming friendships. There’d even been a rumor his tongue had been cut out when they were very young because no one could remember hearing him speak. He often wouldn’t respond to his name when it was called and even when he did, he struggled to grasp the concepts of many of the games the other boys played.
He still cried. Rashid had relished in Altair’s fear and pain. It hurt Malik to read how their old master delighted in the fact that Altair wept and begged him. It was even harder however to read about the kindness he would show Altair sometimes. He couldn't even begin to imagine how confused Altair must have been. After reading one of the passages from early in the journal again. Malik was sure he’d read something similar in one of the other journals, but wasn’t sure which. Here's the thing. You'd do a service if you openly came out and said yes, so many gay men have been sexually abused as kids and it's a dirty secret within their community. Doing so would force them to look inwards; to see if their identity was formed because of that abuse. But you wouldn't, and never would, because your politics and social loyalties would never allow that. Tumblr is far more concerned going after the Salvation Army for its Christian principles and virtue signalling for the rights of LGBT people (and still complain when companies put on the rainbow icon for the month of June) than looking at them head on and saying: you have a problem.
Ironically, Christian people are far more aware of these facts than social liberals, and the ones who are aware are far more sympathizing and understanding of gay men's plight than the most atheistic, 'I Fucking Love Science' virtue worshiper concerned with being tolerant.
